Why Bhannat shala?

Though the criminal act is performed by ’Hands’, its origin lies in the ‘mind’. Therefore, if we want to stop their ‘hands’ from indulging in crimes, then we need to bring about change in their ‘minds’.

Minimizing heinous crimes against girls and women (like rape, acid attacks, female infanticide, domestic violence and many more) by changing the mindset of children susceptible to commit such crimes in future is the main objective behind this project.

The key is to ‘focus on prevention’.

This requires developing an array of strategies to address root causes, including education and employment, treatment for alcohol and drug addiction, implementation of prevention plans that will ensure our children can safely go to school, after-school community programs for our youth, employment training programs and most importantly support positive outlets such as sports, art, music, etc.

Often, adolescents have much commotion suppressed inside them which may erupt anytime in the form of a disastrous act making them either a culprit or a victim. It is therefore necessary to help them bring their problems and concerns to fore, share those freely with others and also listen to similar thoughts and experiences of others. Such discussions will enable to modify their actions and take rational decisions when faced with socioeconomic or emotional crisis situations in future.

Further, such discussions will go a long way in shaping the attitude of men towards women as well as of women towards their own selves. It is absolutely necessary that women learn to recognize their self-worth and nurture self-respect.

Radio medium is being used very effectively in tackling these said needs.
